No matter how clean and tidy they are, all bathrooms are a bit dirty. An average cleaning solution is usually helpless against dirty bathrooms, not to mention full of chemicals that are bad for your health.
DIY all natural toilet cleaner bombs are something else entirely.
Not only do they help you thoroughly clean your bathroom, but they also leave a pleasant fragrance that won’t go away anytime soon. They are also very natural and family-friendly, posing no health risk to you, your kids, or your pets.
Here’s a recipe for one of our favorite homemade natural toilet cleaner bombs:
Ingredients and Supplies for All Natural Toilet Cleaner Bombs
To make this natural cleaning solution, you’ll need the following ingredients:
- ½ cup corn-starch or borax
- ½ cup citric acid
- ½ cup baking soda
- 25 drops essential oils
To mix the ingredients into a homemade toilet cleaner bomb, you’ll also need:
- gallon size zip-top bag
- water in a spray bottle
- a mold of your choice
If you don’t have the time for a quick trip down the grocery shop for citric acid, a squeeze of lemon juice will do. The most convenient mold for natural toilet cleaners is round or egg-shaped, but keep in mind that you’ll need to open it in two and use the halves.
Plastic Easter eggs are ideal, but you can also use a measuring spoon.
As for essential oils, which serve to disinfect and deodorize the bathroom, you can use one of the following or mix them for a beautiful smelling effect:
- Eucalyptus essential oil
- Tea tree essential oil
- Peppermint essential oil
- Lavender essential oil
- Lemon essential oil
Instructions
- Mix dry ingredients in a sealed gallon bag by kneading the blend.
- Open the bag, spray 2-3 times with water, and then close it again.
- Keep mixing and kneading until all the moisture is absorbed.
- Add 25 drops of the essential oil of your choosing and mix again.
Acid and alkali will start reacting, so make sure that the ingredients have some air to breathe. You’ll know that the ingredients are done mixing once the bomb blend turns into a consistent compound that resembles pie dough. And then, start packing into molds. - Push the mix into the mold and let it dry and harden for a day or two.
If you’re using a measuring spoon instead of a spherical mold, the process is essentially the same, though you’ll need to turn the bombs out of the spoon and onto a sheet of parchment. Leave them there for a day or two to dry and harden, then place them in a glass jar.
And that’s it!
Anytime you need to use your homemade toilet cleaner bombs, just drop one into the toilet, give it a few seconds to do its magic, and then flush it down together with all the dirt and grime. If need be, you can always refresh your DIY natural toilet cleaner bombs with a few drops of essential oil.
